Richard Bebbington and Angela Conibear are planning to cycle from Land's End to John "O" Groats in September.

The couple, who have been together for seven years, are hoping the gruelling trek will help them to raise £5,000 for charity Wishes 4 Kids.

The idea of a long-distance cycle-athon had been discussed by the couple for several years, but it was only earlier this year they decided to go for it.

To get in shape for the hard slog ahead, the couple have stepped up their cycling training and are getting down the gym on a more regular basis.

The couple say after leaving Cornwall and Devon they will follow the Bristol Welsh border through Shrewsbury towards Carlisle.

This will be followed by a route towards Edinburgh, Inverness and onwards.

They hope to complete their journey in 16 days - stopping only at night for rest and food at selected bed and breakfast accommodation en route.

Mr Bebbington, 39, a computer programmer, said: " We had discussed the idea for a number of years and it was only this year we thought 'lets's go for it".

"We are now hard in training and are stepping up our fund-raising campaign. Anything we raise will be nice, although we do have a target of £5,000 in our heads".

"The task is a little bit duanting, and will be a huge challenge but there would be no point doing it if it wasn't. We are both looking forward to it".

A charity Ceilidh night is being held at Conkers Discovery Centre, in Moira, on Friday, June 15, to help boost the coffers of the couple further.
